Tips to Prepare an Evacuation Plan

Tips to Prepare an Evacuation Plan

Emergencies do not send you a warning. When a sudden, catastrophic event happens, you may have just seconds or minutes to be safe. When you are at work, what would you do? Where would you go?

Strategic Educational Consulting, LLC believes in the importance of planning. As a preferred Emergency Preparedness Consultant in Washington, DC, we train individuals, families, and businesses to minimize the impact of disasters and increase the chance of survival.

Planning is the core of Disaster and Risk Management Training. Here are some pointers you can start doing at home or in your office:

  • Identify an evacuation area

Look for a safe place to go to in the event of a disaster. If possible, try to have more than one option. Chaos is common in emergencies, but arranging a designated safe place can help for members to meet up. It is also important that an evacuation area is a safe place. You need to assess whatever risks might happen.

  • List down what you can bring

Go bags are pretty common in every household. The workplace can also adapt this ready-to-go-bag concept containing important items workers can bring with them. The bag must also be convenient to carry, otherwise, it may jeopardize the carrier’s safety.

  • Gather all important documents

Keep essential certificates, licenses, IDs, or any other paperwork in a waterproof pouch. You can keep this inside your emergency bags. You may also want to keep digital copies and store them in the cloud for your access.

You will never know how ready you are until something happens. For Emergency Training Consultants in Washington, DC, give us a call.
