Fire Safety: 4 Ways You Can Reinforce it in Your School

Fire Safety: 4 Ways You Can Reinforce it in Your School

Being a school director is without a doubt, a prestigious occupation. However, it also presents a lot of responsibilities. One of which is the safety of everyone in the school.

Now, we are well aware that you already have established a program dedicated to fire safety in your school. However, when was the last time you have it reviewed?

Every school campus is different, and being the school director, you’re the one who knows which safety plan will work with your premises best. To make things easier for you, Strategic Educational Consulting, LLC has prepared a couple of suggestions which you can incorporate into your existing fire safety program:

  1. Check the prevention policy

As they say, prevention is better than cure. If you’re able to efficiently prevent a fire in the first place, then you won’t have to worry about unwanted incidents. Keep it a habit to review and update the policy as often as needed.

  2. Require the staff to be familiar with the safety equipment

This will enable them to better use the said devices in case of an emergency. As an added option for preparedness, you should also consider letting your staff obtain Disaster and Risk Management Training from us. Our program will hone them to be more efficient and responsive during an accident.

  3. Secure clear access to fire exits and alarms

Once your staff has undergone training, they will be better equipped to ensure that these passages remain unblocked. Aside from leaving these exits clear from obstruction, it also helps to have evacuation maps posted in each classroom to make the students more familiar with the safe route that will be used in a fire drill.

  4. Practice the fire drills regularly

Muscle memory springs into action in the event of a crisis. The more your staff and students are familiar with the drill, the better they will be able to execute it. Set up a buddy system for the students so that no one gets left behind. After a drill is done, perform a head count (with a roster to make it more accurate) in a safe zone to ensure that everyone has gotten out safely.
