Client: Office of the State Superintendent of Education, District of Columbia

SEDC was contracted by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s (OSSE) Division of Early Learning to produce several new security products to bring Washington, D.C. into compliance with the Federal 2014 Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act.

For this project, SEDC developed a child care disaster response plan in coordination with other key District of Columbia agencies. We also established new standards for assessing the quality and completeness of provider Emergency Response Plans (ERPs). For center-based and home-based child care providers, we created templates and tools for providers to use in developing their ERPs, and delivered a series of over twenty separate scenario-based trainings and exercises to help providers finalize their plans, and learn practical, actionable strategies to take in the event of an emergency that would require a Lockdown, Shelter-in-Place, or Evacuation.

In addition to bringing the District into compliance with CCDBG regulations, this project supported increased health and safety of children cared for at D.C.-based child care centers. In the second year of this project, SEDC has been contracted to deliver five additional trainings for child care providers.
